Why does the moon...

...look so *small* in photographs?
Click for a larger image...
It seems about 5 times that size when I look at it IRL, why on earth would that be? Some odd optical effect of the eyes? My brain re-prioritising it for some stupid reason? I must google this at some point, can't be just me...and "the camera never lies"...and did I *really* never take a picture of the moon before??

Yes, it is to do with your brain and eye. This combination of equipment allow you to process images much better than any digital device you haven't paid upwards of four figures to acquire. Your brain has the ability to "zoom in" on any interetsing part of the image your eye is providing. Evolution did this so that hunters could discern prey at great distances, and humans could see other predators at great distances and take evasive action.
