Redhill Steam fair...

...was on yesterday, at exactly the same time as Redhill Air Show at Redhill Aerodrome and in a spectacular demonstration of lack of planning, both these events took place down the same very narrow, winding lane (traffic chaos)...Also, the air show was £15 per head entry, the steam fair was £3 entry, and from the steam fair site, all the fun of the air show was clearly visible...bit of a no brainer which to go to... ;)
The same fun fair people seem to come to Redhill as go to Laughton (interestingly), thinking about it, there can't be that many travelling fun fairs around to choose from...!

Whoops... ;)

Someone was selling a *full* penny jar...*shrug*

Lots of militaria as usual...in fact, loads more here than any of the other shows...

At around the apointed time for the air show to begin, everyone from the steam fair walked up the hill (and a few people puffed up the hill on their steam engines) to watch -

- too small to really see unless you zoom in, this was a Chinook helicopter

- which flew around a bit and then dropped a load of sky divers -

- this was followed by a few stunt planes and then a very impressive display by an RAF Tornado (again, a bit too small to see, I've got no optical zoom!) -

- but rather a fun afternoon in the sun/rain... ;)

Hi Glad you liked the steam fair.
On again this year 11 and 12 august.
We were aware that the air show was on the same weekend but it was not poor thinking or planning.
The steam fair is on the second weekend of the month and the air show on the third weekend. this has been so for the 20 years we have done the steam fair.
A leap year as it was when you visited can make the events clash, as we have to slot into the farm (hay) callender as well as the show listings as do the air show have to slot into the air show listings. This is an unavoidable clash that happens once every 5 years.
It is not realy a problem as aircraft spotters are not likly to come to us and vintage vehicle/ nutters who like the past in steam terms would not go to an air show.
Any way glad you posted some good photos, ken robinson. redhillsteamfair.co.uk
