Science versus Nature

Science versus Nature
Spotted just up the Caledonian Road the other day, a really rather "out of the ordinary" (position-wise) poster site ad for one of our competitors...made even more amusingly strange with the addition of the blue mushroom motif (lovingly daubed by one of the local Islington spray artists) in respect...

One would have to take a minute or two, to question the motive of the ad planner that decided on this particular spot, the rest of the local audience probably being quite as appreciative of the subject matter as the mushroom commentator... ;)

Caledonian Road Lorry Crash - aftermath

Brought the proper camera into work today to check out the aftermath of the lorry crash that happened on Friday, and it was actually suprisingly little -
Caledonian Road Lorry Crash #1
- I mean, the railing is a mess, a couple of panes of glass are missing -
Caledonian Road Lorry Crash #2
- and the sign has taken a bit of a blow -
Caledonian Road Lorry Crash #3
- but frankly, I think even if you were sat enjoying your breakfast right in the window you might well have got away without a scratch!

I *think* the cafe might have been saved by the hole in the ground, perhaps when the front wheels fell down there it grounded the lorry just in the nick of time...

Lorry crash - Caledonian Road

The road is closed, three fire engines and two police cars attending, the driver came round the corner, crashed into the one on the left and then parked his cab in the little cafe on the right!

Update - News story here!

Missing Pets...

Missing poster
Spotted in Tesco Metro yesterday morning while I was buying my sandwich for lunch...I dunno what it is with Balfe Street for missing animals, I don't want to suggest that it might be something to do with the fact that the black cabs use it as a rat run from the Caledonian Road back to Kings Cross St Pancras taxi rank... :(

New top rated picture on Flickr!

ANOTHER badly framed one (why!?)...and I'll tell you the *really* weird thing...
Exodus Removals
...the subject of the previous (also baffling) holder of the most-number-of-views trophy (click here to see it) would be clearly visible in *this* shot if there were no traffic...! It's just rather spooky, what is it about poorly constructed shots of the Caledonian Road that magically draws in viewers...? (this is, of course, factoring out the pictures I took on 7/7 which got about ten times the number of hits this one got)...

Funny T-Shirt...

Funny T-Shirt

Interesting shops of Kings Cross #9 - The Scotsman

The Scotsman
...not a shop, so much as a pub, but behind those tiny windows, odd and prominent "NO MOBILE PHONES PERMITTED" signs and (poorly) written exterior notices (even the pub name is just scrawled in chalk on the front of the building, click the picture for a bigger version), lurk I know not what...well, apart from three bits of collected evidence presented here for your consideration...

a) Last summer, on a golden sunny day, in the very early evening witnessing (on my dash to the station to catch my train) three men in hard hats and HVJs totally abandon their cement lorry amid much cheering, whooping and wolf-whistling, in the middle of the Caledonian road (thereby completely blocking the left hand lane by the bus stop) when they caught sight of *something* in the darkened interior that evaded my more distant gaze, being, as I was, on the other side of the road (and in a hurry)...

b) Talking about event (a) with "B" shortly after it had occured in "The Driver" (local nice pub/resturant) and one of the Aussie barmen overhearing a portion of our conversation, mistakenly thinking we frequented said establishent and saying "Oh, you guys go to the Scottie eh?" and giving us a meaningful wink. When we confessed that in fact we didn't go there, he went all quiet and made excuses to leave our company, which he had seemed so keen to be in beforehand...indirect evidence, I admit, but still suspicious...meritous, in fact, of an exchange of Spock-like raised eyebrows in response...

c) Most damningly, a snatched glance (again on my way to catch my train home) of a lady, in what appeared to be a swimming costume, holding a pint glass in her hand, filled not with beverage, but glittering coin...before the door slammed shut behind the besuited gentleman entering the premesis...in fairness, it was quite a hot day, and it is possible they just have an unusually relaxed dress code...but that doesn't explain her unusual cash storage arrangement...

Will the Jury need time to consider their verdict? ;)

Further evidence can be found here...but consider that link NSFW if URLs are routinely monitored at your place of work...you don't want it in the proxy log under your name... ;)

How many more "interesting" shops will I stumble upon within a 5 minute walk of my place of work?!

Is the world really like this...?

Why am I seeing this kind of sign with such regularity?

A rather interesting shop...

...situated in Kings Cross...I pass it at least twice a day, to and from the station, and each time I do, my nostrils are assaulted by the reek of strong skunk, whether the shop is open for business or not...I'm not entirely sure that this kind of thing is legal!
