...when Baby Gap moves out of their retail unit in the hall of a thousand escalators your local shopping mall and Tiffany & Co. move in...

Byron Bull in Cabot Place

I actually did a very shocked double-take coming down the escalator from the DLR into Cabot Place shopping mall when I spotted this enormous cow (and calf) sat right in the middle of my field of vision...absolutely not the sort of thing your tired mind expects to be confronted with during the daze of the commute...turns out that the reason for their presence is a reasonable one though, a new (reasonably cheap - for the Wharf) burger joint has emerged from the flames of Chilli's funeral pyre...the nice smiling ladies who were standing with the cows very kindly gave me a menu, a shiny sherrifs badge (nice touch) and a small black sweet to celebrate it's opening, so I thought the least I could do would be to mention their kindness on the internets...might even pop up for a burger next time I forget my packed lunch (they do take-away) and let you know what I think... ;)

New Escalator Cabot Place

Far be it from me to be one to judge the cost/benefit of urban shopping centre design, but in this tiny space we already *have* six escalators, four of which connect this floor alone (you really can't move for escalators - actually, that doesn't make a lot of sense)...but do we *really* need a fifth? And if we *really* were to need a fifth escalator, wouldn't it make sense to put a bit nearer the DLR entrance (where it stands a chance of getting crowded) rather than at the opposite end of the dome? *Holds hands up in surrender*...

Update - they have now started building a sixth one!!

Canary Wharf G20 Protest

Well, yesterday was a bit of a let down after all, not a single protester made it as far as Canary Wharf, despite seeing on the Sky News Twitter stream that the person leading the "War on Want" marchers had a dead canary on a stick and were proclaiming loudly that "Canary Wharf will rest in peace" - absolutely *nothing* happened - well, unless you count Halifax mysteriously closing their branch in Cabot place...chickens... ;)
