London Street Life 1900's - Video

Well, this is an interesting little gem - take a glimpse back at how things were in London in the early 1900s...Things have changed so much...!

Luckily we still have Bovril though (and don't have to use Izal toilet paper - the shiny stuff they used to have in School)...yik... ;)

Hehe, sorry, couldn't help myself, (I know) it's *blatant* advertising, but it is so cleverly done I just had to share...Well, admittedly some bits of the grammar don't work too well ("It's a Angel World" for example), but I really enjoyed it none the less... ;)

So don't miss out, it's your chance to rename Disney World to something completely different, although not swearwords I'm afraid...(Yes, I knew what you were thinking, you cheeky little imps)... ;)

Video - Skydiver survives 12000ft fall - with no parachute!

This is going to be all over the internet in about 10 nanoseconds time, so I thought I had better mention it quick... ;)

It's horrifying to watch, it takes a long time to fall 2.2 miles (about 2 minutes in fact)...but somehow, against all odds, he survives...! All filmed from his helmet camera...

UCLA Police - America's finest caught on video

Someone kindly posted this video (recorded on a mobile phone) of the events that unfolded as a student who had forgotten his ID card was asked to leave the library in the Powell Building at the University of California, Los Angeles...

Why would this be of interest, I hear you ask? I, too, would have imagined it would probably have been either "Well, you'd better go fetch it then!" or "Well, I know your face, don't forget next time, that's all I'm sayin'" (depending on how the officer was feeling at the time)...what actually happened simply defies belief...

We hereby redefine "disproportionate force"...

Brockham Bonfire 2006 - pics and video!

Was forbidden from taking the Mavica (probably wisely, as it can be a bit chaotic at Brockham on these occasions), so took these with Flyingpops' Z1...We drove down to Dorking mainline station and hopped on the bus (£2.50 return), it's a special service put on just for the occasion (X32) on creakingly old London buses which are *always* packed (and late), but it gets there in the end... ;)

Arrived in good time and started the walk up the lane towards Brockham Green (it was a clear night, full moon, and just a little fog coming from the river, perfect for fireworks!)...

- made it in good time (after making our voluntary £2 donation to fund next year) and worked our way almost to the front of the crowd to watch the guy being hoisted into position (video here), then the torchlit procession arrived -

- and proceeded to throw their flaming brands into the bottom six feet of the terrifyingly huge pyre (if you want to get an idea of scale, check out my day-time pic from last year!) -

- it was dry, and cold, so the flames leapt quickly to the top -

- setting off the thousand odd fire-crackers concealed inside the guy (video here), then, the wind changed direction slightly and (as happens every year) -

- covering the crowd in burning embers causing a minor panic from the organisers (video here), after everyone was evacuated from the danger zone they began the ten minute countdown to the firework display -

- which was, (again) as always, *extraordinary* (got a terrible video of some of it, but thankfully a nice pic or two (imho ;)) -




- then wandered back to the bonfire, for one last look (was too hot to stay close for long though -

- and then back home (got on a bus right away!)...

Bug Jam 20 - 2006 - Pics and video

Okay, so headed off at about half six (AM), went and picked up our back seat runners, then dived around the M25 and up the M1, took our little short cut cross country and pulled onto the site just after 0900hrs (was funny not to have a base camp) turns out they had had just a touch of rain on the Saturday -

- although it was largely quite dry, lots of new tarmac -

- some dubious cars for sale (imagine the "before and after" shots though!) -

- and some interesting custom modifications (didn't see him run the strip, but I'm sure it was quick ;) -

- saw some classy burn outs -

- and some really mad and smelly (+probably extremely dangerous to the lung) ones -

- witness as the young ladies become impressed at the engine size -

- decide this might not smell too great on the bikini -

- and then start to choke (it was after this I had to leg it, the stink was like burning cod liver oil) YUK! Now just a few of the sights from the shops/show and shine/pits -








- then on to the Jet Funny Cars -

- snuck into a forbidden area to take some snaps -


- then ran to grab some video from the top of the hill - this one is the Fireforce team -

- and this one is the Jet Beetle, then after some nice free beer -

- we walked back to the car through the devastation left behind by the throng -
