Last day in Wapping...

IMAG1265
...so it's goodbye Shuttle bus and thanks for all the lifts!  I've managed just over one year working in Wapping, some of my colleagues have been here almost 30 years(!), so while it's a bit odd (and exciting) for me, it's as nothing to the feeling of upheaval some others are going through!  Once we leave the building this afternoon (things are starting to shut down around 3pm) our door entry cards will stop working...next stop "The Place" (or "The News Building" as it will be known) on Monday morning (for a free breakfast, to find my locker, have a tour of the facilities - and then find somewhere to sit)!  Just got to pack the last few things into my crate, ready for my new (flexible) working life!

Would you have thought - Wapping?

Would you have said "Wapping"?
At first glance I would have put this place somewhere in rural France...but no, it's located just a minute away from The Highway in Tower Hamlets...it's been used as a location a few times for various films too, the last lot seem to have forgotten to take down the blue cellophane from the light above the door (perhaps pretending it was a posh police station)... ;)

Ah Wapping...

Ah Wapping...
...I will definitely miss you, not least for your interesting picture opportunities...spotted this morning on the walk to the office... ;)

Going to have to take a few long walks around the place over the next week, just to absorb the last little bits of the place (as I most likely won't be back any time soon)...

Fortress Wapping Demolition...

Fortress Wapping Demolition
...quite a lot of it is already gone (as you can see), and the slow migration of staff from this office starts in a week and a half too, off to the Mini Shard in Southwark...a new era for Wapping...and a big bit of newspaper publishing history slowly crumbling into rubble...
News International HQ demolition
...and another shot from lower down...bye bye News International...

Update - found some pictures on Flickr from someone that did a tour before the demolition started...

Amazing sign spotted...

I Found A Hamster!
...on the edge of a London Park!  Can't help but think of a certain episode of Fawlty Towers... ;)

The News Building

IMAG0760
...well, eleven weeks to go and goodbye Wapping...
IMAG0790
Hello to a whole new world - no fixed desks (i.e. pick your view over London day by day), no fixed hours...the opportunity to meet and work with new people every single day - not just from our business, but across the group...frankly I'm rather excited!
IMAG0765
Already practising the clear desk policy which will be required (you get a large locker each to keep your junk in), but I guess I'll have to put the pictures of the kids on my laptop desktop background from now on...!

The Sun meets the Shard...

Sun at the point of the Shard
...looking absolutely epic...well, a bit more epic to the naked eye, but still epic... ;)

Spring has sprung!

IMAG0681
...all of a sudden! Was still flipping cold this morning, but it looks like it really has finally arrived (in Wapping at least)... ;)

The worst graffiti in Wapping...

Grown up pavement graffiti
...is now outside Thomas More Square...put there by a bunch of grown men in broad daylight...! ;)  I much prefer the efforts in Swedenborg Gardens by the kids (in chalk) -

Free public bike pumps!

Public Bike Pump on CS3
Spotted this the other day, freshly installed by (Cycle Superhighway) CS3...how very civilised!  I can think of a number of times this would have been extremely useful for push chair tyres had we had a few of them in Surrey bolted to the pavement around the place!

Oh it's the most wonderful time...

The most wonderful time of the year
...of the year!  All these poor Christmas trees!  You literally can't turn a corner in central London without bumping into another one (or three) dumped by the side of the road...the really odd thing is, I found myself waiting until I found a Christmas tree that looked satisfactory (in an aesthetic way) before I took a shot...

The Tower and the Shard

...Ancient and modern... ;)

Update - Urm...guess I'll have to investigate what's going on with these stupid flickr watermarks later on... :(

Okay, it's Christmas now!

Picked up the Christmas TV guide for Flyingpops (in my bag ready for the trip home)...
IMAG0289
...and if you didn't already see on Flickr, I wore a completely over the top Christmas jumper (etc.) for charity on Friday (which went down extremely well) -
Christmas Jumper
- and then *today* the work is picking us all up from the offices in Wapping, loading us all on to coaches (at 11am-ish) to go to our big Carol Concert in Southwark Cathedral (next to the new offices) and then super secret Santa on Thursday (which is my last working day before Christmas day)!  There is absolutely no doubt about it...It's CHRISTMAS! ;)

Will post some pics from the office Carol Concert later on if I get a chance...!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
