The Feathers, Merstham, Review

Feather Burger
So, last night I got told off by Flyingpops' mum for not updating my blog...*blush*...

Suffice it to say, yet again, things have been conspiring against me, being very busy at work, then annoyingly getting sick, then yesterday was spent helping Flyingpops' brother move house (typical that it was the hottest day of the year so far *pant*), but about 4*1.5 hour round trips (between the lock up where all the furniture was stored and his house in Merstham) later (filling Colin and Golf to the absolute limit each time) we were all done...hot and tired and dehydrated, for dinner, he kindly treated us to food and beer at "The Feathers" pub (just up the road from where he now lives)...and it really is a cracking pub, the selection of drinks on offer is both staggering (in it's diversity, beers from all over the world, both on draft and bottled) and shocking (in the odd things that you expect to be on offer, but are missing (Chinzano, for example)), the decor is inviting, the selection of board games (free for use) is second-to-none in Surrey and the food is largely rather accomplished.

From our covers the clear winner was the Chicken pie, fat and fine shoe pastry and full to the brim with chunky poultry, vegetables and gravy (but not what I ordered, curses...) the battered fish looked a little on the limp side (looking distinctly floppy in appearance), and was served up missing it's side dish of mushy peas, a quiet reminder to the (definitely new) waiter, resulted in it's appearance a (rather microwave obviously) short while later...the burgers (which I was rather disturbed to NOT be asked quite how I would like to be cooked upon ordering), turned up just on the well done side of medium (which was acceptable), on a nicely toasted bit of ciabatta, almost drowned in strong cheddar cheese (not sure I need quite so much, but at least it was completely melted), and served with a small heap of slightly overcooked (abandoned in trendy London pubs at least 18 months ago) "jacket wedges"...but I can let that slide, Merstham being out in the partial-sticks (just half-way between the real quality rural pubs and real gastro-London restaurant pubs)...

A little light conversation...

Full moon over Merstham
Overheard in the "Iron Horse" pub in Merstham last night (large table of men, plus one woman, playing cards) -

Bloke #1 "Your 'avvin a larf!"
Woman "Nah, just dunno wot you do wiv 'em"
Bloke #1 "Wadda ya mean ya dunno wot you do wiv 'em? You bloody stoopid or summink?"
Bloke #2 "You come to a table of blokes and you wanna talk about that?"
Bloke #1 "Sorry love, but we're 'avin a conversashun abaart PUSSY" (thumps his hand on the table)
Woman "But I fort youlot would be the experts on cock"
Bloke #2 "Two important points here, 1. Why would a confirmed lesbian be interested in what you do with cock, and 2. I would have thought that you'd be HAPPY to join in a conversation about pussy!"
(Table roars with laughter)
Bloke #3 "CAN WE *PLEASE* JUST GET ON WIV DA GAME!"

(FinkAngel retreats to the other bar before his fragile innocence is fractured any further)

I only need an eighth...

Respect these premises!
Last night I was in the "Iron Horse" public house in Merstham, waiting for Jinx, quietly playing "Dungeon Siege" on my PSP when the door to the saloon bar banged opened and in walked what looked like a twelve year old girl, yelling quite loudly into her mobile, she perched exactly opposite the sign I captured (after the event) above, only got her side of the conversation, but it went like this -

"Nah, I always get fortie quid on fursdie, vis fursdie I only get twelve, it's bang aat oorda!"
"Nah, thems' rite screwin wiv us"
"So you ain't got none anyway?"
"Nah, and he sed I was fat, I bin wiv me mum all aartnoon cryin' an at"
"Got right 'ome and said like gis a spliff"
"I know...s'well bad"
"aaright, l8rs"
(hangs up)
"Fukinell" (under the breath)
(dials another number, sucking her thumb like a school girl)
"Allwight?"
"Yeh, nah, I been lookin' round eveywere for sum stuff, innit"
"Nah! U got sum?"
"I only need an eighth"
"So u'll come 'ere?"
"Oh ur sooooo sexy!!!"
"L8rs"

The next time I saw her, she was holding a young child (might not have been hers I guess, but still)...

The sign (and sorry for the picture, it was taken with my mobile in very low light) reads - "Anyone caught using or selling illegal substances in or around these premesis will be banned and reported to the police...Please respect these premesis!!!"

So whichever way you look at it, she was being a very naughty young lady (not that anyone else seemed to mind)...

Each to their own, but some candour, please...

Sunset - A storm brewing?

Sunset #1
Oh, mustn't forget, shot these in Merstham yesterday while waiting for Jinx...You can see what colour the sky would have been if not for the clouds...bright blue! Pretty scary...
Sunset #2
Goodness knows how I missed getting soaked... ;)
